Contraction of disease is most common from
direct contact with other animals in the case of rabbits,
hamsters and guinea pigs. Diseases such as Pasteurella can
also be passed on by cats that carry this bacterium in their
mouths. Disease can be passed through contaminated bedding,
feeding or drinking bowls or any surface within the cage or
run that the animal comes into contact with.
Vaccination and medication may be appropriate
following consultation with your vet, however for further
protection a regular and thorough preventive hygiene regime
using a powerful but safe bio-cleanser such as Viroklenz that
is formulated for use with small mammals and is proven effective
against many of the dangerous viruses, bacteria and fungal
diseases that they contract.
